South Parade play The Venue.

0

Hull’s Best Original Band winners, Shindigg, made the journey down from Hull last night to support South Parade playing at The Venue in Grimsby town centre. The two bands were supposed to be in the main room but a double booking meant that they were relegated into the smaller room. Pretty fine gig though, with a great atmosphere in the little room as well as great sound quality, largely thanks to Glyn from the Springhead pub in Hull on the sound deck.

I had a quick look in the big room and I reckon there were more in the little room watching South Parade and Shindigg!

Have a few pics from the gig, and feel free to click for BIGNESS:

Choccy features chalks up the BIG 1 on Friday 3rd September!

His walking skills are progressing day by day. He’s gone from trying to walk a couple of steps to standing up on his own without anything to hold on to and walking 7 or 8 steps in the space of just a few days. It’s fantastic (and funny) to watch!

Wez hits the BIG 31!

UNLUCKY!

Wez - Before turning 31.

He’s got a rather nice b3ta t-shirt to wear on dress down Friday at work [pics to follow], and I shall be creating a special happy birthday gif for Wez to comemorate not just his birthday but also his receipt of 3 nice speeding stamps on his driving licence and a £60 bill for the pleasure :0) It won’t be done for a while though as I’m working on an interactive quiz at the minute. It’s nearly finished, just a few small alterations to be made then I’ll unleash it on the newts.net. Watch out for it… It’s a good one!

    Meet KHR1.

This is one cool little dude. 17 servos control his more than lifelike movements. He’s powered by an onboard rechargeable battery pack and his movements are pre-programmed by computer so he’s totally indipendent and free of wires when he’s moving.

You can watch him in action and see for yourself here…

Wow Robot KHR1 —> [10.1MB .wmv file]

And if you fancy one for yourself you can order him online here.

He comes in a box…

Check out all those servos!

And he’ll cost you 1,450,000. One million, four hundred and fifty thousand WHAT we’re not quit sure! We think it’s South Korean Won, which would give him a price tag of £692. Not bad really. Well certainly better than 1,450,000!

His mate TAEKWON is gonna set you back £4,725 though!

Horse’s ass

0

A farmer got pulled over by a copper for speeding, and the copper started to lecture the farmer about his speed, and in general began to throw his weight around to try to make the farmer uncomfortable. Finally, the copper got around to writing out the ticket, and as he was doing that he kept swatting at some flies that were buzzing around his head. The farmer said, “Having some problems with circle flies there, are ya?”
The copper stopped writing the ticket and said, “Well yeah, if that’s what they are, I’ve never heard of circle flies.”
So the farmer said, “Well, circle flies are common on farms. See, they’re called circle flies because they’re almost always found, circling around the back end of a horse.”
The copper said, “Oh,” and went back to writing the ticket. Then after a minute he stopped and said, “Hey, wait a minute, are you trying to call me a horse’s ass?”
“Oh no, officer. I have too much respect for law enforcement and police officers to even think about calling you a horse’s ass.”
The copper said, “Well, that’s a good thing,” and went back to writing the ticket.
After a long pause, the farmer said, “Hard to fool them flies though!”

It’s like the online version of Olympics on the PS2 but with an Ancient Greek theme. Haven’t quite managed the gold yet, with 7980 I was just 20 points short! The crafty questions inbetween rounds are pretty tough too.

And all using just the B - N - SPACE BAR buttons. Quality entertainment.

Those lovely people at NTL!

0

So this morning the mail arrives at 8:30am. 8:30am?? Jesus what’s going on here? Has the post office turned over a new leaf? It usually makes it’s appearance sometime after dinner. Anyway, I get a letter from the nice people at NTL telling me they’re upgrading my recently upgraded 1MB broadband connection to 1.5MB for FREE!

There was no date for indicated for this upgrade so I thought I’d check out my speed to see if there was any difference…

So this is how it used looked in july.

And these are today’s test results.

Result! ;0)

An Iraqi point of view.

0

3 Infact. In an effort to offer fascinating inside stories from both sides of the fence.

Iraqi Passport is the story of an Iraqi born US resident filmaker who’s documenting his first trip back to Iraq in 20 years. There’s some great photo’s on the site like this:

An Iraqi common carp bites the dust in the name of dinner.
Masgouf is a dish which originates specifically in Iraq. The fish is cut open from the back, making one fish look like two fish kissing.
photographer: Kristie Alshaibi
February 2004

I’m more used to fishing for common carp than eating them. The strange thing is, over here, live fish the likes of many in these photographs, would be worth hundreds of pounds each to a fishery owner. Over in Iraq they are cooking them like they are 3-a-penny.

Where is Raed ? Is the site of famous Baghdad blogger Salam Pax.

and thirdly…

Wires - My name is Fiona Katie. I install lighting and sound systems in TV Studios and Theatres, in the UK and abroad. Currently I am contracted to install a TV studio in the Palestine Hotel in Baghdad. It is the first of over a dozen being installed for a London - based Iraqi client who has recently returned to the country for the first time in over 20 years. I got this job on the strength of photographs I took of riots in Belfast.

It’s amazing the shit you can find when you know where to look. (No pun intended!)

colon - The section of the large intestine extending from the cecum to the rectum.

colonic irrigation - n : irrigation of the colon for cleansing purposes by injecting large amounts of fluid high into the colon

I’m sure you’ve heard of it, but you wouldn’t do it would you. And it’s not the kind of thing you’d admit to if you did. Hardly a drop in line over dinner is it?.. “How’s your day been love?” “Oh I had my arse Jet Washed this afternoon.”

So there I was surfing away when I come across this. I’ll save posting you a picture of it just incase you’re eating, but check it out. That’s what laid in your colon, day in, day out. Apparently the average you and me have 5 - 10lbs of this crap inside us, and after autopsies, John Wayne was said to have 40lbs and Elvis Presley 60lbs of this inside them.

So this company offer a herbal 5 day colon clean out kit for just $89.50. No tubes up your ass, no embarassing fumbling around with the nurse, just 5 days of fasting and drinking the colon cleaning equivalent of Slim Fast shakes and Bob’s your uncle, out it pops.

Surely not? If only someone would try this out and document the entire process including pictures on the net so that we could see if it works… If only!

CLICK HERE —> scroll down to August 2, 2004 and check out “Ask Me About My Clean Colon.”

The Riveting Truth.

0

I found this blog by chance. I wasn’t surfing for anything in particular, but that’s usually how you find little gems of greatness like this.

It is a live journal of an American Army Infantry Machine Gunner currently serving in Iraq. What drew me to it was the comparisson between the CNN headline:

“Mosul clashes leave 12 dead Clashes between police and insurgents in the northern city of Mosul left 12 Iraqis dead and 26 wounded, hospital and police sources said Wednesday. Rifle and rocket-propelled grenade fire as well as explosions were heard in the streets of the city. The provincial governor imposed a curfew that began at 3 p.m. local time (7 a.m. EDT), and two hours later, provincial forces, police and Iraqi National Guard took control, according to Hazem Gelawi, head of the governor’s press office in the Nineveh province. Gelawi said the city is stable and expects the curfew to be lifted Thursday.”

and the version of events that this soldier who was there, in the line of fire, wrote…

His stories are a fascinating ‘real life’ view on the war in Iraq. His site is called MY WAR - Fear And Loathing In Iraq, and you can find the site here.

It’s obvious from the number of comments posted to “CB’s” posts that he and his blog already have a big following. I’m sure that his readership will continue to grow. I’m also sure you’ll hear more about this site, but remeber, you read it here first!
