Wilf Davey.

0

It’s a sad day today as after a period of illness Rach’s Grandad Wilf passed away this morning.

Trish, Irene and Wilf at Ben's Christening.

Wilf and Jackie.A wonderful guy who I’ve known for the past 10 years. He led a full and colourful life, accruing an army of friends along the way through his career in the Royal Navy and latterly in the transport industry. Wilf was always at the forefront in his work and social duties with his beloved Royal Naval Association right up until the final days. Never short of an opinion, yet always open minded enough to take on board the views of others, he was great for a debate. Worldy wise, politically assertive and wonderfully green fingered. A jack of all trades and a master of a few as well.

Wilf and his best buddy Ben.Im just so thankful he was there for the first 2 years of baby Ben’s life. They were so good together and had so much fun doing little boy stuff. It was Grandpa who taught him how to click his fingers, something Ben does every time he passes Wilf’s house or sees a picture of him. A small part of Wilf will forever live on in Ben. And while he may not be in touching distance, I’m sure he’s keeping an eye on his baby Ben and smiling down on us all right now.

Roy, Wilf & Ben.Nelson’s famous signal “England Expects That Every Man Will Do His Duty” was made from the poop deck of the Victory at 11.15 a.m. on 21 October 1805 just minutes before the commencement of the Battle of Trafalgar.

* * *

I’m sure Wilf’s at peace knowing he did his.

Indian Weather.

0

It was October and the Indians on a remote reservation asked their new Chief if the coming winter was going to be cold or mild. Since he was a young Chief in a modern society he had never been taught the old secrets. When he looked at the sky he couldn’t tell what the winter was going to be like.

Nevertheless, to be on the safe side he told his tribe that the winter was indeed going to be cold and that the members of the village should collect firewood to be prepared. But being a practical leader, after several days he got an idea. He went to the phone booth, called the National Weather Service and asked, “Is the coming winter going to be cold?”

“It looks like this winter is going to be quite cold,” the meteorologist at the weather service responded.
So the Chief went back to his people and told them to collect even more firewood in order to be prepared.

A week later he called the National Weather Service again. “Does it still look like it is going to be a very cold winter?”
“Yes,” the man at National Weather Service again replied, “it’s going to be a very cold winter.”

The Chief again went back to his people and ordered them to collect every scrap of firewood they could find. Two weeks later the Chief called the National Weather Service again.

“Are you absolutely sure that the winter is going to be very cold?”
“Absolutely,” the man replied. “It’s looking more and more like it is going to be one of the coldest winters ever.”

“How can you be so sure?” the Chief asked.
The weatherman replied, “Because we’ve never seen the Indians collect so much f*cking firewood!”

The wonderful Danish bacon spoof of the Citroen C4 advert.

This is wonderful, pure hilarity and fantastically done too. You’ll be well familiar with the groundbraking original advert for the Citroen C4. Then came this wonderful spoof version featuring the Citroen 2CV. Well now the dancing car parts are replaced with rashers of Danish bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes, sausages, toast and a fried egg!

Happy Birthday Wez.

0

Another year older, another year uglier. So to celebrate Wez’s 30 something year in existance, we all went bowling yesterday. In short Toni won the 1st game, Gaz won the second game, and I came second in both with the highest aggregate score overall. Which was nice as earlier in the day, not only did I beat Gaz on his home golf course, I beat Willie for the first time too! Quality :0)

In Other News: There’s a couple of funny posts I’ve got pending but I can’t post them yet as they are to do with Wez’s present, which hasn’t arrived yet, so they’re gonna have to wait until he’s got it.

A good night at the tables.

0

Had a good night at the Holdem’s tables tonight. Played 5 nine player sinlge tournaments - won 4 - 2nd in 1!

Particularly sweet was this hand…

4 of a kind.... 10's.

10 - 9 suited in the pocket and three 10’s materialise on the flop. SWEET.

Another tournament win.Later on in a different game I also flopped four 2’s!! I haven’t hit four of a kind for months and months and tonight I get 2 in the space of an hour. A $45 win. It’s nice to actually ‘Cash Out’ for a change, so I returned my winnings to my bank account, possibly in lieu of one of these. I was just talking to Oli earlier about how I could use a small portable cd player situated next to my guitar and amps so that I can jam along to a few tracks. He suggested this Tascam guitar trainer and it seems to have all features I wanted plus many more. I’m just a couple of small wins away from getting it completely out of my winnings, so that’s the objective. I’ll keep you posted.

There’s been quite a lot of interesting stuff going on over the last few days, all very much post worthy but I’m too busy right now to write up each one in detail so here’s my news round up in brief:

Cleric fcuks off:

Good riddance, and take a few of your hate preaching mates with you.

Robin Cook croaks:
Never liked the guy, admired his resignation for what he believed in over Iraq, but that’s about it.

Shuttle returns to space:
Just hope they make it back again! Fantastic shuttle pictures here.

England clinch fantastic victory:
Fantastic! And Huzzah for Freddie Flintoff.

McGrath likely to miss third Test:

Unlucky.

Australian bowler Lee in hospital:

Unluckier.

UK sub saves sailors from death:

When will those Ruskies learn?

Petrol hits £1 a litre in parts of the country:

Hmm, I think I’ll be looking at one of these in the near future then.

Through and Through.

Stained Glass West Ham United Badge. When Rach’s Dad said he was having some new double glazed doors fitted at home, we had an idea that the stained glass would feature the colours claret & blue. We didn’t quite imagine this though.

Quality, and beautifully done too. Apparently a few people saw it in the double glazers shop and have placed orders for themselves. Probably not for the West Ham crest though, it’ll be your usual army of glory boy Man U fans!
