Ronald Reagan.

On the way home from work tonight I heard that Ronad Reagan had died. It was quite a somber moment.

Ronald Reagan.

Growing up, Reagan was the first American President I can remember. I’m sure he will have his critics, but to me there was something of a ‘feel good factor’ to him. Ever cheerful even in the face of adversity, though more of a figurehead than a strong leader with a grasp for detail, he was the best communicator the White House had ever had. For a while, he made America feel good about itself again.

Ronnie also had a great friendship with then Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

Best Buddies, Reagan & Thatcher.

That always seemed symbolic of the friendship of our two nations and forged the strong Anglo - American bonds that continue today.

And possibly the factor that endeared me to him the most, who can ever forget the funniest most satirical programme ever unleashed on the British public… The fantastic SPITTING IMAGE! And the puppet that was Ronald Reagan…

Ronnie had been suffering from the terrible brain debilitating Alzheimers disease for a number of years. His wife Nancy today said that it was so bad in the final weeks that Ronnie couldn’t ever remember being president. How sad. I trust his suffering is over.

R.I.P. Ronald Reagan. 1911 ~ 2004.

    Reagan and Thatcher?
One cunt down, one to go.

Most of his policies (including being very anti-gay) were a failure.
He backed governments that tortured and rape (Guatemala) and lets not forget the Iran-Contra crisis.

The rich got richer by massive tax breaks whilst minimum wages were frozen. Apparently trees were pollution. Greed was good, big was best, and that goes for cars and wasitlines as well.

Reagan was elected by all but 1 state. His legislation stimulated economic growth in a then pessimistic climate. Inflation was curbed, employment increased along with defence spending and taxes were cut.
In 84 he won his second term with an unprecedented number of electoral votes.
In 86 he overhauled the income tax code, which eliminated many deductions and exempted millions of people with low incomes. At the end of his administration, the Nation was enjoying its longest recorded period of peacetime prosperity without recession or depression.
He improved relations with the Soviet Union and initiated the elimination of intermediate-range nuclear missiles along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
The reaction by the VAST majority of the American citizens speaks for itself. They didn’t think he was a “cunt.”

Don’t get me started on Thatcher. I know your opions and I’m sure you know mine. Save to say we wouldn’t be becoming the European poodle we’re rapidly heading for with her at the helm.
Just keep an eye on tomorrows Euro election result and see how well UKIP do!

    > Reagan was elected by all but 1 state.
    Scwarzenegger syndrome.
He was an ex-actor, and boy do the yanks love their movies.

    > Inflation was curbed, employment increased along with defence spending and taxes were cut.

Manufacturing arms and ignoring the deficit trying to outpsend Russia.
Lets not forget training Osama to fight the russians, who later went on repay the debt on 9/11 and watching his mate saddam gas 3000 kurds (whilst selling arms to Iran). Thanks for that tax cut.

    > exempted millions of people with low incomes.
    Yeah, from actually earning anything.
How about trying to abolish the department of education?
What about trying to forget that AIDS was happening?
He cost the lives of up to half a million americans due to his inactions.
Well, they were only gays anyway…

    > period of peacetime prosperity without recession or depression.
Peacetime? Maybe on their soil, but not elsewhere. No recession yet, as the budget deficits hadn’t kicked in yet.
His ‘trickledown’ economics never trickled down, and were an absolute failure. The country is paying now for his mistakes.

    > He improved relations with the Soviet Union
well, thats one way of saying it.

    > the elimination of intermediate-range nuclear missiles along with
    > Mikhail Gorbachev.
Again, the Russians were collapsing because they couldn’t keep up with the US spending.

    > The reaction by the VAST majority of the American citizens speaks for itself. > They didn’t think he was a “cunt.”
Is this just the right wing ones represented on CNN and Fox News?

    From This Modern World:
“As someone who served with President Reagan, and in the interest of historical accuracy, please allow me to share with you some of my recollections of the Reagan years that I hope will make it into the final cut of the mini-series: $640 Pentagon toilets seats; ketchup as a vegetable; union busting; firing striking air traffic controllers; Iran-Contra; selling arms to terrorist nations; trading arms for hostages; retreating from terrorists in Beirut; lying to Congress; financing an illegal war in Nicaragua; visiting Bitburg cemetery; a cozy relationship with Saddam Hussein; shredding documents; Ed Meese; Fawn Hall; Oliver North; James Watt; apartheid apologia; the savings and loan scandal; voodoo economics; record budget deficits; double digit unemployment; farm bankruptcies; trade deficits; astrologers in the White House; Star Wars; and influence peddling.”

Rep. Dingell concluded, “I hope you find these facts useful in accurately depicting President Reagan’s time in office.”

    > Save to say we wouldn’t be becoming the European poodle
    > we’re rapidly heading for with her at the helm.
If its a choice between being with the US or Europe, give me Europe everytime.
If you fancy a europe/no europe debate, please post another entry on your blog. :)

    > Just keep an eye on tomorrows Euro election result and see how well UKIP do!
probably not as well as the BNP may do…

P.S. Your comments box is a bit too small. :)

    >Manufacturing arms and ignoring the deficit trying to outpsend Russia.
What’s wrong with that? If you’ve got a superpower aiming nuclear missiles at you are you supposed to sit idly by and wait for them to take you over? The resultant effect was the demise of the Soviet Union as an SP and the end of the cold war. Good call I say.

    >He cost the lives of up to half a million americans due to his inactions.
And his actions saved the other 290 million from wearing bearskin hats, swilling vodka and singing the mamoushka.

    >$640 Pentagon toilets seats.
So the guy likes to crap in style! How much of your taxes paid paid for Lord Irvine’s 60 grand wallpaper?

    >ketchup as a vegetable.
You mean RED SAUCE and it’s made from tomatoes so he was roughly on the right lines! Fruit - Vegetable: easy mistake.

    >union busting.
Excellent. What good have lefty millitant unions everdone for us? Maggie never caved in and neither did Ronnie. Even middle of the road lefty Tony can’t stand them.

    >astrologers in the White House.
As apposed to Blairs army of fat cat civil servants and spin doctors?

    >If its a choice between being with the US or Europe, give me Europe everytime.
Hopefully the choice is not that stark. If When Tony resigns our fine nation to being a chip off the Euro superstate block, I hope our biggest ally will still be the US and not France / Italy / Germany etc. We have more in common with America than the rest of Europe. Like D-Day for example. Where were the rest of Europe then? Ah yes, occupied by another member of Europe with grandiose designs. A bit like Russia before America sorted the job out.

    >If you fancy a europe/no europe debate, please post another entry on your blog.
Yeah, let’s get it on. I’ll post the against, you post the for and we’ll have a mini poll too.

    >P.S. Your comments box is a bit too small.
Yeah, the first sensible thing you’ve said so far! It’s ok when the post is longer than the right hand menu, but when it’s shorter it hides behind and makes it difficult to see what you are typing. It needs to be narrower and deeper. A css issue that I’ll sort out soon.

Anyway, me & Gaz are off fishing in the boat tomorrow so watch out for another…

As I said Wez: “Just keep an eye on tomorrows Euro election result and see how well UKIP do!”
    Election Results
UKIP become the 3rd most represented party, just 3 seats behind Labour in 2nd and push the Lib Dems into 4th place.
It’s just a shame they’re fronted by that gob shite Kilroy Slik
I’m pleased to see your BNP boys came nowhere, as I suspected.

  9. newts on June 17th, 2004 5:58 pm

Thank you for that educated and informative input Gaz!

And we won’t be voting BNP. Any party that advocates division, racism and a Nazi doctorine has no place in civil society.
The D-Day post is all about the people who fought to save us from the Nazi’s and their latest incarnation of the BNP.

You’re about to become a Dad, God forbid your son ever appears in a picture like this. Heartbreaking.

The only tactics you need to fish Ladybower are:

    1. Try every fly in your box.
    2. Try every line in your bag.
    3. Fish every inch of the reservoir
    4. Pray you don’t come last.
