Now I may be wrong…

F1 like racing car crash.

…But not all those parts flying through the air look like they belong to a racing car!

I’ve had this picture a while t-bird. I have a “to do” folder where I file any interesting stuff I find while surfing until I get time to post it on the newts. It’s been in there a while, so I can’t honestly remember where it came from, and I don’t know much more about it. My thoughts where that they don’t look like F1 cars, and if it was F1 I’m sure we’d have heard and seen much more about it. The blue car seems to have ‘Canada’ written on it so my guess was that’s where it could have come from. Maybe it’s some smaller season local to Canada, formula ford or suchlike.

As pics like this get circulated round the net though you tend to find out more information on them. A bit like my video of Tom Pryce’s crash on the 77 South African Grand Prix. I didn’t know anything about the vid until someone who saw it emailed me with the details. So if I do manage to find out anymore about the pic I’ll let you know.

In the mean time, if you’re in to car crashes, check this site out.

That’s Alex Zanardi’s crash in a ChampCar race in Germany. He lost both his legs in that accident, presumably that’s what we’re seeing there. He lost control of his car coming out of the pits on cold tires and span accross the track, where his car was broadsided by Alex Tagliani (the blue car) travelling almost 400km/h.

An absolute miracle he survived… they actually used a belt tightenned around what was left of his legs to stop the blood loss. Not only that, he’s actually returned to racing for BMW in touring cars. He’s a very remarkable man, read his book if you want to learn more about him.
