I would up your mainline to braid and not less than 30lb, 8lb is not strong enough mate, as for rods you won’t go wrong by getting the dave lumb prowler
Thanks for the response Mick. After reading up on various forums I’ve got myself 300yds of 50lb Power Braid. I’m still undecided about the rod though. Have been advised to start with a lighter outfit and take it from there. Don’t know if the Dave Lumb will be too stiff?
Hi Newt,
We have a pike fishing blog at http://pacnews.blogspot.com and a website at http://pacgb.com you might like to have a look at for more info on pike fishing.
Kind Regards,
CB
anything rated upto 60g i even chuck the tiny spoons when i want too,ive caught carp to 18lb, and 3 mackeral at a time canoeing in wester ross, theyre only shakespeare royalty spin jobs but at 10 ft theyre fine, all rounders, may stick some penn generations on them when i get my new wooden handles, all the best for the new year
Thanks for that Joe. I went for the Greys Prodigy Jerkbait rated 30-100g in the end and I’m very happy with it. Having some great sport launching lures of all shapes and sizes with this great rod coupled with my fantastic Diawa Viento multiplier. landed a 12lb’er on my 2nd trip out with my new pike gear so I’m buzzing. You can read about it here.
