I’ve got my first ever LIVE multi table tournament texas holdem’s game on Friday 3rd of March. It’s a £25 buy in with prizes for the final 8 surviving the knockout part of the tourney. There’s no indication yet of how many players there are, but I think it’s going to be pretty big. EVERYONE seems to be playing Texas Hold’ems just lately. It’s being held at the Oaklands hotel in Laceby, just a few miles down the road for me. I’m really looking forward to it – money finish or not – it’s going to be a great experience playing a multi table tourney sat opposite people instead of a flat screen!

Just the one game tonight as I’m up early in the morning for a day out fly fishing. It will be my first outing of the season, so I may be gracious and allow Gaz to beat me this one and only time. Full report later on the newts.net. In the mean time, It’s nice to slip straight back into the winning ways with the cards though, I was getting bored with 3rd. Money or no money you can’t beat 1st. Having re-formatted my pc recently I’ve been kind of busy with what time I spend at the pc getting it back looking how it used to. Hence the lack of posts of late. It’s only when you re-format you realise just how much shit you’ve got on your pc. It’s kinda nice to turn the pc on and it boots in seconds, but it’s also kinda scary to see a huge desktop with about 4 icons on it! And going to the my program list and seeing a dozen items when you’re used to 4 columns full of options is weird too. But things are getting back to normal now. The really vital stuff is thoroughly backed up and restored immediately, certain programs are re-installed and other free programs are dowloaded and installed. It’s only when you come to do something that takes second stage to getting the pc back to a useable state that you realise that you’ve missed the odd program or two.

Tonight for instance, been studying my poker bible, watching the poker zone, and just fancied a game or two on the pc. And what do you know?? Forgot to re-install my fave poker site! So back it went on and to the tables I navigate. Long story short: 8 games (2 played simultaneously) – 2 outside the money finishes – 2 x 3rd’s – 2 x 2nd’s – 2 x 1st’s. A nett gain of $49 or in proper money about £30 form just playing $3, $5 and 1 $10 tournaments. Few hours fun, few hours more poker experience logged and 30 sheets up to boot. Good start to the year. Oh and the two games I played simultaneously: 1st in a $5 tournament and 3rd in a $10 tournament. 2006… BRING IT ON!

What an absolute F*****G B*****D! Down to the last 4 players in a 9 player game of Holdems, needing a 3rd place to finish in the money, I’m dealt pocket rockets AA. With 3 players in the pot, tossing their chips in like there’s no tomorrow, I’m on a definite BIG winner. A bet of 600 goes in, I click raise to double it to 1,200. Nothing happens. I click raise again and again nothing happens. The server’s running slow and my cards are just flashing at me constantly. I can’t do anything. the server decides to pull it’s finger out of its ass, catches up, and because I’ve taken too long to make my decision my pair of aces have been folded. As you can imagine, I was none too happy.

Anyway, that’s poker and them’s the breaks. No amount of bitching is getting my pocket rockets back so learn and move on. Needless to say after dumping 90% of my chips in the bin on that hand I came 4th and won nowt.

You may remember from a few weeks back that the mission was to win the £130 I needed to buy the Tascam portable CD player come guitar tutor. I wanted to buy it but only purely out of winnings. It started with a $20 deposit that needed to be turned in to $260 if I was to get the CD and not forgetting my original $20 stake money back. That night I cashed out $180 so tonight the target was a cool $80.

I stayed positive and focused on the job in hand, putting behind me that sinking feeling of having my AA dumped, and things picked up rapidly from there:

I played 5 x $25 and 3 x $15.

I Won 2 x $25 and 2 x $15 single tournaments.

I was 2nd in 1 x $25 tourney.

I was 3rd in 1 x $25 tourney.

And I finished outside the money in 1 x $25 and 1 x $15 tourneys.

Had a good night at the Holdem’s tables tonight. Played 5 nine player sinlge tournaments – won 4 – 2nd in 1!

Particularly sweet was this hand…

10 – 9 suited in the pocket and three 10’s materialise on the flop. SWEET.

Later on in a different game I also flopped four 2’s!! I haven’t hit four of a kind for months and months and tonight I get 2 in the space of an hour. It’s nice to actually ‘Cash Out’ for a change, so I returned my winnings to my bank account, possibly in lieu of one of these. I was just talking to Oli earlier about how I could use a small portable cd player situated next to my guitar and amps so that I can jam along to a few tracks. He suggested this Tascam guitar trainer and it seems to have all features I wanted plus many more. I’m just a couple of small wins away from getting it completely out of my winnings, so that’s the objective. I’ll keep you posted.

Well it started off ok when I took £10 off Gaz playing Texas Hold’ems round his house with Bov & Pete. Then, after I got home on the net it went down hill rapidly getting dumped out of 2 $25 games without finishing in the money :0(

But hell they don’t call me the Poker Newt for nothing! Infact they don’t call me it at all, but things improved markedly after the initial 2 losses. I hit 3 consecutive 2nd places and 1 3rd place

With the switch over of pc’s there’s kind of a priority or order as to what goes on first. The new pc is looking more familiar every day, but after installing the new sports and the old sterling versions of William Hill Casino, I noticed tonight I was missing my favourite texas holdems site UK POKER. So after downloading and installing it, my account still working fine, I thought I’d have a swift $25 game…

Ahh, still got the poker touch old newts. 1st game back… $112.50 in the sky rocket. Nice ;0) Let’s hope it’s an omen of things to come!

What a game. Talk about the come back kid! I was down to 275 chips with all 9 players round the table. Doubled through twice, hung onto to 2,000 chips for a while then hit the 3,500 mark. Couple of bad breaks had me down to 600. Clawed it back and the other players started to fall by the wayside. Got down to the last 4, just wanted to be in the money (3rd or better) after such a rollercoaster of a game… WON IT! :mrgreen:

It had been a bit of a slow night on the old Poker tonight. Couldn’t hit a cow up the arse with a banjo while Bov, Gaz and Pete were in the room. Soon as they left though I had one for the road… A little $25 tourny. And while I nearly lost to a chick, a pleasant chick though and quite card savvy…

…Pokermeister newts managed to save a slow night with a nice $112.50 boost to the account! Sweet.

I had to win one game though, I think even Sean won a game tonight and yesterday he couldn’t even spell POKER! Come to think of it, I’m not sure he can today either :0))

While Bov, Gaz and Pete the Painter all fell by the wayside and moped off up them wooden stairs to bed… The newts chalks up his 2nd tournament win and his first in the $25 class tables.

Next step’s gotta be the $50 tables and then if we get lucky there we may be tempted by a hand or two on the $100 table. Who know’s, at this rate I might be able to afford a spare key for a honda ;)

Unable to get Broadband at his new house because the scumbag neighbours don’t want their little private road digging up, Gaz has finally got back online through freeserve and his 56k slowdem. Bit of a come down from the 600 phat k’s that he was used to, but he’s back all the same. I think his sudden decision to get back online may have something to do with me and Bov being in the UK Poker site, playing Texas Hold’ems every night. He can’t risk a bit of a flutter old Gaz, especially if it means a chance of parting Bov from his money. A pass time we all enjoy (as it doesn’t happen very often!)
